Xhevahir Myftari can be held criminally responsible for killing his sister-in-law, a forensic psychiatrist testified Thursday.

William Komer, a Crown witness, told the court that in his 10 sessions with Myftari, the 38-year-old never once mentioned hearing voices directing him to attack Julia Vlashi.

Myftari is charged with second-degree murder in connection with Vlashi’s August 2012 death.

He has admitted to killing her, but pleaded not criminally responsible due to mental illness.

Previously, the court heard from Julian Gojer, a forensic psychiatrist called as a witness by the defence, and from Myftari himself that the Rockwood man was experiencing hallucinations at the time of the stabbing.

Komer disputed those claims, saying Myftari was upset with Vlashi because she was keeping tabs on his medication.

“He appreciated his actions would result in her death,” Komer testified.

“He’s clearly lying, trying to get out of the situation.”

After Vlashi was killed, jurors have heard, Myftari took her car and withdrew money from her bank account to purchase a plane ticket.

The trial continues Friday.
