An employee of the Township of Georgian Bluffs was assaulted Wednesday after visiting a residential property to address a bylaw issue, police say.

The incident brought police officers, including a canine unit and emergency response team, to a property on Grey Road 1 east of Wiarton around 2:30 p.m.

According to Grey County OPP, the municipal worker had been met by a “verbally aggressive” resident who demanded that the worker leave his property.

As the worker was leaving, police say, he was hit from behind by a machete being wielded by the resident.

A 62-year-old Georgian Bluffs man was arrested, and now faces one charge of assault with a weapon.

The municipal worker was treated for minor injuries.
