Motorcyclist killed in Kitchener crash; police say another failed to remain at scene
KITCHENER -- A 24-year-old man has died after his motorcycle and a car collided in Kitchener on Wednesday evening.
The crash happened in the area of Fairway Road South near Wilson Avenue.
Police at the scene said two motorcycles were travelling together southbound on Fairway Road South when the collision occurred. One motorcyclist was killed and the other motorcycle failed to remain at the scene, according to police. They haven't said whether or not the other motorcyclist was involved in the crash.
Police say they have notified the man's next of kin.
The driver of the car wasn’t injured.
"We do believe speed was a factor," Sgt. Bruce Sim said at the scene.
Nearby plazas were busy when the crash happened around 6 p.m.
"We heard the crash, we turned, we (saw) him going across the road and that's when we jumped out and took off running towards him," witness Joe Whynott said.
Whynott jumped in to help and said others did the same.
"(We) put compressions on the wounds he had," he said. "There was a nurse on scene, she started CPR."
They did their best until emergency crews arrived.
Fairway Road South was closed while police investigated.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
