KITCHENER -- A motorcyclist has died following a collision with a horse and buggy in Woolwich Township on Wednesday.

Waterloo regional police say the incident happened around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday morning on Church Street North in Elmira.

"Approximately 9:45 this morning, emergency services responded to reports of a collision involving a horse and buggy and a motorcycle," said Const. Andre Johnson.

Police say when they arrived, a 58-year-old motorcyclist was found with serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.

"Tragically the male was pronounced deceased while at hospital," Johnson said.

Church Street between Arthur Street North and Duke Street was closed for several hours but reopened around 2:30 p.m.

Both the driver of the buggy and the horse were not hurt.

"The horse and buggy was travelling eastbound on Church Street while the motorcycle was travelling westbound on Church Street towards Arthur Street when at some point they crossed paths, which caused the collision," Johnson said.

He said it's "too early" to say if charges will be laid.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
