A 14-year-old Windsor girl is in critical condition after impaling her head on a sawed-off golf club being used to mark lines on a sports field.

A lawyer hired by Madison Arseneault's family says the girl is awake at the moment, but the full extent of her injuries are unknown.

The lawyer says the girl was with her Grade 8 gym class last week when she tripped over wire marking the city-operated field and was then stabbed by the golf club, which fractured and punctured the back of her skull.

A city parks official says crews have been using recycled golf clubs for decades when staking sports fields for line painting.
