Waterloo Regional Police Service was one of many that opened its doors to the community Saturday as a kick off to Police Week.

It's an opportunity for the public to meet the officers and learn about how they serve and protect the community.

Barry Zehr, an officer with Waterloo Regional Police Service looks forward to meeting the public and says "the event helps us build stronger relationships with the community."

Families spent the day checking out the different police vehicles, learning the ins and outs of the job and getting advice on how to stay safe.

Police Week is happening through out the province and it ends May 21st.

There are more events happening throughout the week at Waterloo Regional Police Headquarters.
