Friends and family of a Kitchener woman are grieving after the young mother was killed while on vacation in Jamaica. 31-year-old Amanda Prosper died in a car crash in St. Ann’s Bay earlier this week, leaving behind three children.

“Amanda had the biggest heart ever. She had this spunk about her, and this personality. She walked into a room and it just got lit up,” said Holly Nahragang. Prosper was Nahragang’s son’s aunt.

“She’s a beautiful person, a wonderful mother,” Tessa Wirth said about her best friend.

Prosper had gone to Jamaica with her aunt and two older children, leaving her 2-year-old daughter with Wirth. Prosper was driving with a friend, who told police he swerved to avoid a head on collision and lost control of the car.

“These things aren’t supposed to happen. You go on a trip to have a fun time and bring your kids and then that happens two days into the trip,” Nahrgang said.

Friends have started a fundraising effort to raise $5,000. They say Prosper had traveller’s insurance, but they don’t know how much it will cover.

“We’re just trying to raise money for her kids, for her funeral expenses. I’m trying to bring her home… We don’t want to leave her there; we need her to come home so that we all have closure,” Wirth said.
