At the second and final day of a preliminary hearing, a judge has decided there is enough evidence to proceed with a trial for prominent Kitchener lawyer Hal Mattson.

Mattson is charged with obstructing justice, but there is a publication ban on the current court proceedings so no other details are being released.

Police accuse him of trying to influence a witness in a separate case.

Mattson has been practicing criminal defence law for almost 30 years. In court Friday he was attentive to the proceedings.

A steady stream of supporters and observers were also in the courtroom, from family and friends to other lawyers.

Mattson says this isn't the outcome they were hoping for, "I don't feel that great. I don't think anybody would because they process is now going to have to continue to another court. I was originally hoping that wouldn't happen but we'll deal with it."

He has chosen trial by judge and jury, but says he is reconsidering that decision and may request a trial by judge alone.

The next appearance for Mattson will be October 28 in Superior Court, but it may be quite awhile longer before a trial gets underway.
