A 21-year-old Stratford man will serve an 18-month jail sentence for stabbing his older brother in 2013.

John Pushelberg was charged with attempted murder but plead guilty on Tuesday to the lesser charge of aggravated assault.

On March 18th, an argument broke out between Pushelberg and his 22-year-old brother Keith at a residence on Home Street, in the city’s south end. Keith was stabbed in the chest.

When paramedics arrived at the home they found Keith Pushelberg without vital signs.

He was taken to a London hospital in critical condition.

Keith Pushelberg, now fully recovered, was in court on Tuesday to hear his brother’s apology.

Justice Lynda Templeton acknowledged John Pushelberg’s remorse when delivering her decision. She also cited the influence of drugs and alcohol as factors that led to the stabbing.

John Pushelberg was sentenced to two years less a day in jail, but will receive credit for three months already served. The sentence includes three years’ probation for drugs and alcohol use, plus an additional 20 years for the use of weapons.
