City councillors in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge have all voted unanimously in favour of teaming up with each other and Guelph to bid for the 2021 Canada Summer Games.

The local bid has already been named one of four finalists to host the event, along with Ottawa, Niagara Region and Greater Sudbury.

Proponents of the bid claim hosting the games will allow the area to upgrade its sports and recreation infrastructure, and likely generate more than $100 million in economic activity.

The decision on which community will host the event is expected to be made by April.
