Two men are facing charges after allegedly taking apart a vehicle at a Stratford car dealership early Friday morning.
Stratford Police were called to the scene at Expressway Ford and Lincoln just before 3 a.m. following a tip from the public, and say they saw two men dismantling a car.
Stratford Police Insp. Mike Bellai says "They were able to take one person into custody immediately after a very short foot chase."
The Waterloo Regional Police Service's canine unit was called in to help find a second suspect, seen running into a nearby wooded area.
Bellai says "He was apprehended a short time later and both right now are being held in custody for a number of charges."
Twenty-seven-year-old Andrew Colafranceschi and 30-year-old Michael Gordon have been charged with theft over $5,000, possession of stolen property and mischief.
Tim Knott of Expressway Ford and Lincoln was called to the dealership around 4:30 a.m. on Friday.
"It's not right, that's why everybody's shocked, you don't think it can happen in a small community."
All of the car's parts were recovered, unlike at other dealerships that have experienced similar thefts. In July, a dealership in St. Marys had wheel assemblies stolen from six pickup trucks.
Knott says it seems like the parts are targeted could be needed for a repair, "Almost like they're order takers, these thieves, like you know that they're getting specific parts down the one side of the vehicle."
Stratford police and the OPP continue to investigate.
