A man who pledged not to manufacture ready-to-eat meat products has been fined for doing just that.
According to Ontario’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Burford-based Greenwood Meats and the company’s owner each pleaded guilty to processing meat products without a licence.
Officials say the charges were the result of an inspection of the Greenwood Meats facility conducted last June, during which the company’s owner admitting to producing 330 pounds of ready-to-eat meat.
In 2008, the owner had signed a document promising he would not produce those products at his company.
Greenwood Meats and its owner were fined a combined $3,750 for violating Ontario’s food safety laws.
The meat, which was worth an estimated $1,600, was all condemned.
