Originally from London, Ontario, Matthew graduated from the University of Toronto in 2006 with an Honours B.A. in Political Science, and minors in French and German. He then attended Seneca College to study Broadcast Journalism.

Matthew's first job in media was working as a volunteer technical operator at Rogers TV in Toronto. From there, he began reporting as a videographer for Rogers TV in York Region. After graduating from Seneca College in 2009, Matthew interned at CBC National Radio News, where he worked as a writer, reporter, and chase producer.

Before joining CTV Southwestern Ontario, Matthew worked in Germany for Deutsche Welle, Germany's international broadcaster. As a member of the English service, Matthew worked as a radio reporter and anchor, and also wrote online news articles.
