An Oakville man has now been formally charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Tim Bosma.
Mark Smich, 25, was arrested Wednesday and appeared in a Hamilton court Thursday morning.
He appeared nervous and said only a few words in court, keeping his head down for the bulk of the appearance.
Police say Smich is the second man who accompanied previously arrested Dellen Millard on a supposed test drive of Bosma’s truck.
Bosma was last seen May 6, leaving his Ancaster home for the test drive.
Police have said they believe Bosma was killed either that night or the next day. His burned remains were found on a North Dumfries farm owned by Millard
Millard, 27, was arrested May 11 and charged with first-degree murder several days later.
Smich and Millard are said to be known to each other.
Lawyers for both men have said their clients intend to plead not guilty.
Police spent more than a week searching both the farm and a hangar at Region of Waterloo International Airport owned by Millard’s company, Millard Air.
An incinerator was found at the farm, but police have not said if it was used in Bosma’s death.
A third suspect, who followed Bosma’s truck in another vehicle, remains at large, but police have recovered the vehicle – a dark blue GMC Yukon owned by Millard.
Both Millard and Smich are scheduled to appear in court via video on June 13.
According to court records, Smich has been in trouble with the law several times before, including drug charges in 2005, impaired driving charged in 2009 and a graffiti offence in 2012.
Millard's lawyer says posting bail is still a possibility, though bail would likely be set around $1 million and come with strict conditions, possibly including house arrest.
