WATERLOO -- Waterloo regional police have arrested a man wanted for attempted murder and arson.

Officers were called to a scene around 6 a.m. on First Street in Elmira on reports of a house fire.

Two people were found with stab wounds and taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police then identified 33-year-old Paul Bagley as a person of interest and were seeking the public's help in locating him.

Around noon, they tweeted that they had grounds to arrest him  for attempted murder and arson and that he is known to the victims.

Police believed the Audi SUV he was driving was involved in a minor traffic incident when he fled the scene and sustained front end damage.

WRPS would not say where Bagley was found but that OPP arrested him without incident just after 2 p.m.

As of 7 p.m., the victims are both still in hospital with serious injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Waterloo Regional Police Service.
