KITCHENER -- Regional Police are investigating a shooting in Cambridge that left a man with serious injuries.

Officers were called to the area of Morning Calm Drive and Franklin Boulevard around 9:30 p.m on Saturday.

They say two suspects had approached a group of men in a targeted robbery.

During the altercation a firearm was discharged by one of the suspects and one man was shot.

He was taken to hospital by car with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Police have not specified how the victims or suspects know one another, but believe the suspects fled on foot.

"Our officers surround the area, there was a K-9 search that was unsuccessful," said Insp. Marc Crowell of Waterloo Regional Police. "We are exploring linkage with street level drug activity."

The two suspects are described as black men with thin builds and both appeared to be under the age of 20.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police.

WRPS say this is the second shooting incident in the region this year.
