The Cambridge man shot by a police officer in Kitchener last month is at home as he recovers from his injuries, his lawyer says.

Ed Burlew was in court Friday to represent his client Maurice Rivard, who is charged with one count of attempting to disarm a police officer.

Court documents show that Rivard was pulled over by a Waterloo Regional Police officer at Ottawa and Lilac streets on March 2. A struggle ensued, during which the officer shot Rivard.

According to his lawyer, Rivard considers himself innocent.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is looking into the particulars of the shooting.
