A man from Bentinck has been charged after allegedly firing a crossbow at a woman.

West Grey Police say they found the 35-year-old man on Monday morning, perched at the top of a hill and in the bushes.

The man’s father, Don Scott, says the crossbow was aimed at his wife.

"My wife had gone out to pick some garbage up that he had thrown in the laneway and she heard him up on the hill and he stood up and shot an arrow at her," he says.

The woman escaped unharmed and called police.

“He had the crossbow in his hands upon arrival,” says Cst. Cory Trainer. “The property is a residential area and when police pulled up a male did have a targeted view of police.”

It took a tactical squad 10 minutes to talk the suspect down.

Darcy Scott has been charged with uttering threats, one count of weapons dangerous, two counts of possessing a crossbow contrary to a prohibition order and one count of failing to comply with a probation order.

Don Scott says his son suffers from both a drug addiction and mental health issues.

“I don’t know if this story is about trying to get help for people with mental health issues or trying to get help from the police to deal with the drug problem.”

Court clerks in Walkerton confirm Scott appeared in court on Tuesday.
