Police say a 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with robberies at Peoples Jewellers locations in Kitchener and Guelph.

The York Region man was arrested Friday in Richmond Hill, Ont. with the assistance of local police.

On Dec. 1, 2010, the Peoples Jewellers location at Fairview Park Mall was robbed, and on Jan. 28, the location at Stone Road Mall in Guelph was hit.

In the first incident, three men entered the store wearing wrestling masks, and while one threatened the clerks with a gun, the others took an unknown amount of jewelry.

In the second incident, two men armed with a gun and a hammer ordered customers and employees to the ground and smashed cases, fleeing with an unknown amount of jewelry.

Police say evidence was left behind at both locations, and Waterloo Regional police worked together with Guelph police on the investigation that led to the arrest.

Waterloo Regional Police Superintendant Bryan Larkin says "The ability to meet with the Guelph investigators and compare notes, go over video and really look at where are we, where are you, how do we come together, that also really strengthened the investigation."

The suspect is being held on robbery and weapons-related offences in connection with the two incidents.

Police say they're still investigating both incidents and are still searching for additional suspects.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Waterloo Regional police at 519-650-8500 Ext. 4499, Guelph police at 519-824-1212 Ext. 344 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
