KITCHENER -- A 25-year-old man has been arrested after a string of events that led officers on a search through a cornfield in Woolwich Township.

Officers were initially called to a parking lot near Northfield Drive at around 8 a.m. on Monday to check on the wellbeing of a man slumped over a steering wheel of a Dodge pickup truck.

When officers woke up him, they say he reversed into a tree and fled the scene.

Shortly after 9 a.m., police responded to the scene of a different crash in the area of Line 86 and Northfield Drive where a pickup was involved in a hit and run.

Police say the truck collided with a Hyundai Tuscan, causing it to roll over.

An occupant in the Hyundai sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was seen fleeing the area bare-foot.

Officials closed the area of Line 86 and Northfield for an investigation and began a search of the area.

Police also deployed their remotely-piloted vehicle (RPV) to investigate.

Police could be seen removing a pickup truck and a car from the scene shortly after 11 a.m. Monday morning.

At 11:15 p.m., police responded to the area of Katherine Street in Woolwich for a report of a male sleeping in a vehicle.

Police say that’s where they found a man who matched the description of the earlier crash.

He was treated for dehydration on scene by paramedics.

The man was arrested and is facing a number of charges, including possession of a stolen motor vehicle, flight from police and fail to remain.

Correction:

This is a corrected story. A previous version stated that the man who was arrested was 26 years old. In fact, police later corrected his age to 25.
