KITCHENER -- Police are investigating after a male was found unconscious in northeast Kitchener on Thursday.

According to a Twitter post, he was found in the area of Victoria Street North and Frederick Street with "significant injuries."

Police later clarified that the person was found outside of a gas station in the area at around 6:30 a.m. by an employee.

A spokesperson said that the person suffered facial injuries and that police are now investigating what caused them. He was taken to local hospital.

Investigators are now trying to figure out how the man was injured.

"We are still trying to determine the actual cause of injury," said Ashley Dietrich with WRPS. "We are appealing to the public, anyone with information related to this incident, should contact police or Crime Stoppers."

Despite the stay-at-home order, police believe there may have been witnesses who drove by the area at the time of the incident.

"It would have still been dark at 6:30 in the morning, so we are just appealing to anybody for information," Dietrich said.
