Extreme cold warnings in effect, flurries on the way

CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison has the bone-chilling forecast for Jan. 20, 2025.

There is an extreme cold warning in effect thanks to cold air entrenched over the Great Lakes.

According to CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison, wind chill values are feeling close to a minus 30 C.

“Extreme cold warnings are in effect and through London and Middlesex, stretching through the Chatham area towards Windsor-Essex and then from London, east through Haldimand, Norfolk, and Woodstock,” she said. “Oxford County, you’re included in this as well as Elgin County and in and around Waterloo heading to the north.”

Snow squalls are also still impacting the region, with the Bruce Peninsula and northern Bruce and Grey counties still on the lookout for that through the afternoon into the evening with the possibility of whiteouts and low visibility.

“Wind chills tonight will approach that minus 30 C mark with bitterly cold air continuing as we head into your Tuesday and lasts into Wednesday,” said Atchison.

Before a break from the cold, satellite radar is showing flurries that are pushing through parts of Ontario in London.

“We could see a couple centimeters as we head into the late afternoon and then another couple centimeters tonight.”

Tuesday: A mix of sun and cloud with 60 percent chance of flurries. Wind west 20 km/h gusting to 40. High minus 15. Wind chill minus 25 in the morning and minus 30 in the afternoon. Risk of frostbite.

Wednesday: A mix of sun and cloud. High minus 12.

Thursday: Cloudy with 30 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 6.

Friday: Cloudy with 30 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 6.
