University of Waterloo graduate Juliana Yuen has won the Governor General's Gold Medal for the best marks on the Canadian Chartered Accountants Uniform Evaluation.

The 3-day long test is seen as one of the world's most challenging professional examinations.

Yuen had the top grade among the 2,900 students who passed the test this year in Canada. For her efforts, she received $5,000 from the Chartered Accountants of Canada.

"I pursued a CA career because the learning opportunities and flexibility appealed to me," says Yuen. "I was so surprised to win the Gold Medal, but very honoured and happy to receive the news. I haven't made any concrete goals for my future career yet."

Yuen is currently working with Ernst & Young LLP in Toronto.

"This is a time of both pride and relief for these outstanding individuals as they continue their journey to become members of a valued and internationally recognized profession," says Kevin Dancey, FCA, president and CEO, Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. "They deserve congratulations for a truly significant accomplishment."

6 other 2011 Waterloo MAcc graduates made this year's National Honour Roll.
