Samuel Henry Landry pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a Guelph court Thursday in connection with the death of 17-month-old Charity Lynn Fisher four years ago.
The 25-year-old had been charged with second degree murder in the toddler's 2006 death.
According the agreed statement of facts, Landry had started a relationship with Fisher's mother three months earlier, and was babysitting the child at their apartment on Alma Street at the time of her death.
The child was reportedly crying and fussing, when Landry hit the girl on the head with a baby bottle and threw her into her crib.
The court also learned that the Fisher had a number of bruises on her body, some fresher than others. An autopsy revealed she died of multiple blunt force trauma.
Scott Sanderson is Fisher's biological father, he says the situation hasn't been easy, but "Hopefully he goes to jail for a long time and justice will be served, I guess."
Landry reportedly cried when he finally confessed to police, and his lawyer says he is truly remorseful.
Defence lawyer James Ruddock adds, "This is something he's been affected by for years. I can tell you from my perspective everything he's told me is genuine and he truly regrets what he did."
Landry will return to court in January when a judge will determine how much more time he will spend in prison for the crime.
