Christopher Yorke of Kitchener has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to defrauding several people out of about $150,000.

The victims included two brothers who were conned into investing over $100,000 about four years ago, and a 29-year-old woman who lost over $40,000 about a year ago.

He reportedly met the woman on an online dating site, and promised her adventure, love and money.

Crown prosecutor Mark Poland says "Yorke found in her a vulnerable victim. He emotionally manipulated her, he sexually manipulated her, and he financially devastated her."

The victims in the case remain too upset to speak on camera, after being pushed close to financial and emotional ruin. There are reports one considered suicide.

Yorke has a record of fraud, and reportedly owes around $170,000 to other victims in crimes for which he has already been convicted.

The judge in the case has called Yorke a scoundrel, rogue and a fraudster through and through.

While Yorke offered no apology to the victims when he was sentenced, his lawyer says he wants to turn his life around.

Defence lawyer Nicholas Wansbutter says "All I can say is that as I stated in court what he's relayed to me is that he wants to leave the life of crime behind him and he has a commitment in himself to reform himself."
