Waterloo Region police have finally arrested 23-year-old Nikola Popic after surrounding his Copper Leaf Street home for the third time.

Two schools in the area were in 'hold and secure' mode on Monday as police moved in. They remained outside the home for over an hour before entering the house with an arrest warrant.

Alana Holtom, communications coordinator with the Waterloo Regional Police Service, says "Anytime when our officers are facing a situation where we're unsure of the circumstances or the weapons that may be on the person inside of the residence, we do take the utmost precautions and if that involves communicating with local schools to have them go into a hold and secure that's certainly something that we'll do."

On Thursday police had surrounded the home for nearly four hours, and they returned again on Saturday with no luck before finally nabbing the suspect on Monday.

The repeated police activity has created quite a stir on what residents say is normally a very quiet street.

Popic faces a charge of being unlawfully at large as well as additional charges related to a stolen car found at the home on Thursday.
