A Guelph man is facing charges of impaired driving and failure to provide a breath sample after an incident on Stevenson Street North.

Police say an electric motor-assisted bicycle was spotted traveling northbound on Stevenson around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The bicycle then hit a curb, causing the driver to fall off.

Officers went to assist the man and determined that he was not injured, but was believed to be intoxicated.

William Beaver, 47, was arrested and charged. He will appear in court March 5.

Police say the bicycle had the ability to be operated by pedals or by the motor, but the pedals had been removed.

An electric bicycle with pedals being used is classified as a bicycle under the Highway Traffic Act. One with pedals removed or not used is classified as a motor vehicle.
