Waterloo Regional Police say Devane Anttony Campbell, 20, of Brantford was shot and killed at a home on Elm Ridge drive in Kitchener's Forest Heights neighbourhood.  An autopsy done in Hamilton revealed that Campbell died as a result of gunshot wounds.

Officers remain at the scene and are continuing their search for evidence.

Superintendent Kevin Chalk says patrol officers responded to a report of gunshots fired in the area of a housing complex at 199 Elm Ridge Drive Friday night around 11:30.

"We had the report of gunshots plural, so we're not sure how many at this point how many shots were fired" says Chalk.

Neighbour, Vince Davison says "I didn't hear the shots but there were people in the unit next to me that actually heard the shots they heard 3 shots"

When police arrived they found Campbell outside of the residence with signs of trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe this was not a random attack and say they're trying to find out if a link exists between the victim and the suspects.

"There was clearly something that incited the altercation that took place what it was we don't know at this point." says Chalk.

Neighbour Gord Brownrigg says, "There's lots of children in this neighbourhood and lots of seniors. so of course this brings a sort of a new element into the neighbourhood."

Police say while there may have been a connection between the deceased and his assailants, they haven't confirmed that detail.

They are however looking for clues, and will have a command post at the scene for the remainder of Saturday and Sunday. Police are asking any one in community with information to contact police.
