Guelph police are looking for the public's help in identifying a woman who is in serious condition in hospital after being struck by a car Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called shortly after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a pedestrian being hit by a car on Metcalfe Street. An elderly woman was walking along the sidewalk when she was struck by a car as it backed out of a driveway.

The woman was taken to Guelph General Hospital and later air lifted to Hamilton General where she remains in serious, but stable, condition. The woman will have to undergo surgery due to her injuries.

The woman was not carrying any identification and police are asking for assistance in identifying her. They canvassed residents in the area with negative results.

The female, estimated to be in her seventies, is described as 5'6'' tall, heavy set with white/grey hair. She walks with an adjustable brown cane with a "T" handle and was wearing a green and purple wind breaker over a blue sweater and grey track pants. Police believe that she does not speak English very well.

Anyone having information on this woman is asked to call Guelph Police.
