An elementary school in Brantford was placed into a hold-and-secure situation, one step removed from a lockdown, as police searched the neighbourhood for two suspects in a home invasion.

Shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday, police received a 911 call from a residence on Maitland Street, west of the city’s downtown.

According to police, a 42-year-old resident of the house returned home to find two unknown men inside.

After a brief struggle, the suspects left the home on foot.

The victim was then taken to hospital by ambulance and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police responded to the scene and began a search for the suspects.

King George Public School on nearby Rawdon Street was placed into a hold-and-secure for nearly one hour during the search.

By 11 a.m., the search ended unsuccessfully and activities at the school returned to normal.

The suspects are described as a white man and an aboriginal man.
