KITCHENER -- There was a heavy police presence on D'Arcy Place in Kitchener's Laurentian Hills neighbourhood on Thursday night.

Officers were called to the scene around 5 p.m. for reports of a distressed male who had barricaded himself in a residence there.

There were concerns for his wellbeing.

After more than five hours of negotiation, he was apprehended and taken to hospital for treatment.

There's no word on if anyone else was inside the home, but police say no one was injured. There was no threat to public safety either, according to police.

Tactical and K9 units also responded to the call.
