A longtime volunteer with Scouts Canada is facing several charges relating to alleged sex offences involving children.

Guelph Police say Brandy Pierce was arrested on Thursday.

Pierce, 37, has been a volunteer with Scouts Canada since 1998. In that role, he worked with children between the ages of 11 and 14.

A spokesperson for Scouts Canada says the organization became aware of the allegations against Pierce by reading a media report.

After reading the report, the organization ended its ties with Pierce and began notifying parents of children he worked with.

“Nothing is more important to Scouts Canada than the safety of the youth in our care,” John Petitti of Scouts Canada said in a statement.

Pierce faces charges of child luring, invitation to sexual touching and making sexually explicit material available to a child.

He was released from custody with what police describe as strict conditions, and is scheduled to return to Guelph court Aug. 11.
