A Guelph couple is speaking out after a car full of people started shouting anti-gay slurs at them just steps away from their home.

The unsettling incident did not end there – the couple tells CTV News the car came back around the street they were walking on for a second time before someone in the car threw a water bottle at them.

The incident happened one week after a mass shooting at a gay Orlando nightclub.

Nick Kulnies admits he shouted back – that’s when they say the car circled back around and threw the bottle.

“If they did this to us, they’re probably going to do it to someone else out there,” says Kulnies.

Members of Tri-Pride in Waterloo Region say they’re concerned this is only one of many incidents.

“I think discrimination, I think disgust, disappointment, anger,” says Alex Chunaco, President of Tri-Pride.

Kulnies and his partner Greg Bellfontaine did report the incident to Guelph Police - but since they were unable to catch the license plate, they were unable to file an official complaint.
