A joint service for two volunteer firefighters who died while battling a blaze in Listowel, Ont. will be held on Thursday.

Fifty-six-year-old Ken Rea of Atwood and 30-year-old Ray Walter of Listowel will be honoured at the Listowel Memorial Arena at 2:00 p.m.

Visitation for Rea is scheduled at the Elma Memorial Community Centre in Atwood on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Visitation for Walter will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home in Listowel on Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m.

The firefighters were working to douse the flames at the Dollar Stop last Thursday when the roof reportedly collapsed while they were inside the downtown building.

The Ontario Fire Marshal continues to investigate what happened.

Over the weekend people in the community came together for grief sessions held by Victim Services of Perth County and the North Perth Ministerial Assocation.

Messages of condolence have reportedly been pouring in from across Canada, and many emergency services personnel are expected at the service.

Firefighters from across the province are also volunteering their time to fill shifts so members of the Listowel Fire Department can attend the funeral for their colleagues.
