Two men are facing charges after police discovered an Elmira-based company was buying cattle fraudulently.
The OPP have been investigating for almost a year since they first received information of cattle fraud involving an Elmira-based company.
Central Ontario Cattle Ltd. bought and sold livestock primarily in Ontario but also throughout Canada and the U.S.
Police discovered that fraudulent cattle purchases had occurred when the company purchased cattle with company issued cheques totalling over $2.2 million.
Merle Shantz of Elmira and Howard Bauman have been jointly charged with one count of fraud over $5,000, four counts of theft over $5,000 and 22 counts of false pretences over $5,000.
Both men are scheduled to appear in Kitchener court on April 10 to answer to the charges.
