After a number of takedowns by heavily armed officers on Thursday, four people have been charged with robbery and drug offences.
Three of four men being held following a takedown at the Comfort Inn in Cambridge on Thursday afternoon have been charged with robbery and drug-related offences.
Waterloo Regional police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel says "We have several people charged in connection with a robbery. Two individuals as I understand it right now are from Alberta."
A vehicle with Alberta plates was also seized. The men from Alberta are 21- and 27-years-old, and the third man taken into custody at the motel is a 25-year-old from Cambridge.
The fourth suspect, a 30-year-old man from Waterloo, was arrested separately at an address on Regina Street Thursday. He faces drug trafficking charges.
All of the charges are connected to an incident where a group of men were reportedly fighting and a gun was seen in a Waterloo parking lot on Wednesday night.
Defence lawyer Sean Safa represents the Waterloo man arrested, who was in court on Friday.
He says "My client was arrested on Regina Street and at this point he's facing charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking."
Police say about $60,000 worth of marijuana and other drugs was recovered during the course of the investigation.
Heinzel says "Police at this point have not recovered the weapon, however, there was some evidence at the scene that would indicate that a firearm was present at the time."
There are reports that some bullets were recovered in the parking lot at Northfield Drive and Davenport Road, though police won't confirm it.
A man taken in for questioning at a home in Conestogo earlier Thursday morning has not been charged and was released unconditionally.
