A food manufacturing facility in Cambridge was evacuated Monday night when a piece of equipment caught fire.

Firefighters were called to the Hostess Frito-Lay plant on Bishop Street North just before 8 p.m.

According to the Cambridge Fire Department, flames began in a fryer and then spread to the factory’s roof.

A total of 19 firefighters worked from inside the plant and from the building’s roof to contain the flames.

Later in the night, employees were allowed back into the building and production resumed in all areas expect for the fryer.
