A barn in South Cayuga has significant damage after a fire tore through the building Thursday night.

Crews were called to the property on Haldimand-Dunnville Townline, between Rainham Road and Lakeshore Road, just after 10:30 p.m.

It’s believed the barn is used for storing hay.

Officials say no one was inside the barn at the time the fire broke out.

Haldimand County Fire Services stayed at the scene throughout the night to put out any hot spots.

Damage to the building is estimated at $500,000.

The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate.
