Two fire stations were called to a barn fire south of Drayton Monday morning.

It broke out around 10:40 a.m. on a farm located on Wellington County Road 8, near Side Road 17 in Mapleton Township.

The owner of the farm tried to put out the fire before calling for help.  The barn was engulfed within ten minutes of fire crews arriving and had collapsed into the bottom floor.

There was no livestock in the barn, only hay and straw.

Mapleton Fire Chief Rick Richardson says the cause is not suspicious.

“It definitely has to do with combustion because the whole building was fully involved.  Not one end or the other.  It was the whole building so we are suspecting combustion.” Richardson says.

The OPP have cleared the scene and the fire department says there won’t be an investigation.
