Smoke billowed high above the skyline of Waterloo’s north end Tuesday night as flames consumed an abandoned farmhouse.

Firefighters were called to the property, on Roy Schmidt Road off Conservation Road, shortly after 7:30 p.m.

When they arrived, they found the building engulfed in flames.

The fire had been called in by a neighbour who smelled smoke and then saw the fire from her window.

Battling high winds, firefighters also hosed down neighbouring properties to keep the fire from spreading.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
