Two people are dead after a fire ripped through a triplex in Amherstburg. Debris and shattered windows are all that's left of the scene at 216 Richmond street.

Officials say the fire started in one of the back apartment units shortly after 2 am.

Two neighbours tried to save a couple that were trapped inside, but the flames were too strong. Officials eventually got the couple out. They were taken to hospital where they died of their injuries.

The Ontario fire marshal has been called in to investigate the cause. Damage is pegged at 150-thousand dollars.
