A father and son are charged with trafficking guns after police seized 5,600 rounds of ammunition from their Kitchener home.

It happened earlier this week on Wellington Street North. Police say they found ammunition for handguns, rifles and shotguns. The men allegedly sold them to street gangs.

Robert and Ryan Wilson are charged with 4 counts of trafficking firearms. Both men appeared in court on Thursday morning. Their cases have been adjourned until the end of July.

Police have also issued an arrest warrant for 25-year-old Joseph David Bevan.

“We believe this person is in possession of some firearms,” says Supt. Gary Askin of the Waterloo Regional Police. “He is a dangerous individual.”

Police are also troubled by another incident that happened nine days earlier. They found a loaded 12-guage shotgun inside a Louisa Street apartment, which they say was one of four weapons allegedly sold to street gangs.

“Our guns and gangs officers in particular, as well as the rest of the police service are doing everything they can to get these guns off the street,” says Supt. Askin. “We’re trying to stay ahead of that issue because we don’t want it to happen elsewhere in the province.”
