Family and friends came together to remember 38-year-old Joanna Nowakowska and her four-year-old daughter Bianca, Saturday.

Among the many paying their respects was a large group of students from Resurrection Catholic Secondary School, where 17-year-old Tamara Nowakowska goes to school. Her friends were offering their support as Tamara deals with the loss of her mother and sister.

"It's going to be a couple of tough weeks, but we really want to be there to support her and know that we're here" says Courtney Lang.

Joanna Nowakowska and her daughter were found dead in their home on Monday night.

There was an outpouring of community support in the days following. On Thursday, Inspector Kevin Thaler with Waterloo Regional Police confirmed what many believed.

"The mother did take the life of her child and then died from self-inflicted wounds."

The students at Resurrection Catholic School have raised $1,200 for the trust fund dedicated to Tamara Nowakowska.

Resurrection Chaplin, Kelly Steven says "sometimes we look to adults to be the leaders and the young people are actually the leaders in many cases."

For those looking to contribute to the trust fund, information is available through the Westmount Funeral Chapel.
