There is little indication of an impending municipal election in Wellesley, and it may be because the entire council and the mayor are returning unopposed.

In the last municipal election almost every position saw a new face, but this time all five incumbents, including the mayor will return.

Susan Duke, CAO/clerk for the Township of Wellesley, says "Many position have been acclaimed in the past, but certainly not an entire council."

Wellesley Township Mayor Ross Kelterborn says he hopes it's an indication "that the people in Wellesley were satisfied with what we had been doing."

Three of the four school board trustees were also acclaimed, leaving votes with a maximum of two race to vote on, regional chair and French-language district school board trustee.

Whether the news is good depends on who you ask, and whether they are concerned about a lack of interest in politics, or simply believe there is satisfaction with the current council.

There are concerns, however, that the lack of choice means there is also less debate and less public engagement in the issues. And that could mean a drop in voter turnout.
