LUCKNOW, Ont. - The destructive emerald ash borer has been discovered in the Bruce County community of Lucknow.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says it's the first time the bug has turned up in the area and is urging people to help control the spread of the insect.

Forest specialist Brian Hamilton there is a ban on the movement of ash logs, branches and wood chips from the affected sites without prior approval from the CFIA.

Hamilton says property owners in the community near Lake Huron have been notified and further restrictions could be imposed this year.

The Emerald Ash Borer has been found in 26 Ontario counties over the last 10 years.

The bugs have killed millions of trees in North America.
