Josh Classen's forecast: Cooler, cloudy and some light snow

The string of warmer-than-average temperatures is over.

Edmonton had above-average daytime highs for six of the first eight days of December.

But...cooler air is dropping in for the next few days and we'll be slightly below average for today, Wednesday and Thursday.

The coldest air will be to the east and northeast (daytime highs in the -14 to -20 C range in east-central and northeastern Alberta). Milder air will hang around in western Alberta.

So...we're right in the middle of those two airmasses and along the front that divides them: SNOW.

We've had some flurries early this morning in the Edmonton area. It may taper off for a bit and then return this afternoon (or we may just have a few flurries in the area all day).

Some slightly heavier snow is expected to start around supper-time or early this evening and we're looking at a few centimetres of snow by early Wednesday morning (maybe upwards of 5ish cm).

That front doesn't really move much Wednesday/Thursday, so we're still looking at the chance of some flurries both those days (no really significant accumulation).

Temperatures bounce back to the 0 C range for Friday. But...it's a one-and-done. We're right back into a cooling trend through the weekend.

And...THAT cooldown looks like it'll have some real bite early next week. Most of the modelling indicates daytime highs slipping to the minus teens for Monday-Wednesday of next week.
