A 22-year-old man is facing four counts of manslaughter following a crash which left four Kitchener residents dead.

Meanwhile, the families of the people killed are left trying to figure out how to move on with their lives – including caring for two young girls left orphaned by the crash.

Heinrich Martens was driving a minivan on a highway in Kyle, Texas, last week when it was hit by a wrong-way driver.

He was killed, as was his best friend Gerhard Hiebert, Hiebert’s wife Margaretha Wall Hildebrandt and their son, Jacob Wall Hiebert.

The couple also had two daughters in the car, who survived the crash.

Their uncle, Abram Hiebert, is now staying with them in Texas.

He said that dealing with the loss of their parents is “really hard” for the girls, who are aged six and three.

“God kept them here. He saved them out of that wreck. God has a plan for them,” Abram Hiebert told KXAN-TV in Austin, Texas.

An online fundraiser has been set up to help cover the cost of sending the remains of the Hiebert family members killed to Mexico for funerals.

Martens’ wife is now left alone to raise her five children.

Wilson Molinares is charged with four counts of manslaughter in connection with the crash.

He was also injured in the crash, and was only released from care on Tuesday.

Local police say he is not in custody, but they are aware of his whereabouts.
