A Wiarton man is dead following a crash between two large trucks in Wellington County.

The crash happened shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday on Wellington County Road 7 just west of Rothsay, north of Drayton.

Wellington County OPP say a tanker truck hauling animal fat was making a left turn onto County Road 7 from a private driveway when it was struck by a southbound tractor-trailer carrying a load of mulch.

“Upon impact, the tractor-trailer burst into flames and the tanker truck rolled over,” says Const. Cheri Rockefeller.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, 24-year-old Marshall McCartney of Wiarton, was pronounced dead, while the driver of the tanker truck was not injured.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known, but weather conditions could be a factor.

“There was dense fog at the time,” says Rockefeller.

OPP continue their investigation.
