A driver is facing two licence suspensions after police say they clocked him driving at 162 km/hr on Highway 401.

In a social media post, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division said a member of the Cambridge OPP pulled the 36-year-old driver over on the westbound lanes of the highway.

The man then registered as ‘alert’ on an alcohol screening device.

In Ontario, if a roadside breath test shows a result of 0.05 – 0.079 Blood Alcohol Concentration, the driver can be given a warning and an immediate temporary licence suspension. The penalty for a first offence is a three-day licence suspension and a $250 fine.

A driver whose results show a Blood Alcohol Concentration of 0.08 or more faces a 90-day licence suspension, a 7-day vehicle impoundment and a $550 penalty.

The Guelph driver was charged with stunt driving and careless driving.

He was also been handed a three-day licence suspension for the ‘alert’ reading and a 30 day suspension for stunt driving.
