A 21-year-old Kitchener man was charged with careless driving and drug possession after a Thursday afternoon crash on King Street East.

Police say the man was driving a Honda westbound on King, near Jackson Avenue, when he attempted to pass a larger vehicle traveling in the same direction.

The Honda struck the front end of the larger vehicle, causing it to spin out of control and strike a hydro pole on the north shoulder.

Two people from the Honda were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

King Street East was closed in the area for two hours while police investigated.
